US President Donald Trump has criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump said that relations between the US and the United Kingdom are no longer at the same level as before.
While speaking to reporters, Trump emphasized that ties between the two countries have traditionally been very strong and should remain at the highest level.
"We have an extraordinary long-term relationship with the United Kingdom... it should be the best," he said.
However, he suggested that the situation has changed with the current political direction in London. "It was always the best until Keir came along ," Trump added.
While maintaining a critical tone about the decision-making, Trump spoke positively about Starmer on a personal level : "I like him, he's a good man... a very good man with a beautiful family."
The US president also raised concerns about Britain's military contribution, suggesting other forms of support. "You don't have to send me aircraft carriers... send me some minelayers."
According to him, the British aid was not timely. "He would only send it after we had essentially won... when there were no more planes left," Trump stressed.
In conclusion, Trump drew a comparison to the historical figure of Winston Churchill, implying a similar lack of leadership: "Unfortunately, Keir is not Winston Churchill."
His statements come at a time when military cooperation between allies is at the center of international attention.
