Debris from a drone fell near Erbil International Airport, in the autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq, causing material damage to the surrounding area.
According to local authorities and security sources, fragments of the drone fell in a parking lot near an administrative building, damaging several vehicles. Emergency crews and firefighters immediately responded to the scene to secure the area and assess the damage.
Footage released from the scene of the incident shows damaged cars, metal debris and fragments scattered on the ground, while security forces and rescue teams are working to clear the area.
No casualties have been reported so far, but the incident has raised concerns about security in one of the most strategically important areas of northern Iraq.
Erbil Airport has a special importance as its complex also houses a military base where American and international coalition forces are deployed.
The incident comes at a tense moment in the region, as the conflict between Iran, Israel and their allies is spreading to several Middle Eastern countries, increasing the risk of similar incidents in Iraq and the Kurdistan region.
