Kurdish armed groups operating along the border between Iraq and Iran appear to have launched military moves against Iranian forces, at a time when the conflict in the Middle East is escalating.

An official from the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan (CPFIK) told Israeli media outlet i24NEWS that fighters affiliated with the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK) have begun deploying to combat positions inside Iranian territory since March 2.

According to the same source, thousands of Kurdish fighters have been deployed in the mountainous areas of western Iran, particularly in the Zagros Mountains region, while Iranian forces are said to have evacuated the border town of Mariwan and set up defensive positions around it.

PJAK operates with two armed structures: the Eastern Kurdistan Protection Units (YRK) and the Women's Protection Forces (HPJ), which, according to Kurdish sources, are organized according to the model of Kurdish formations in Syria.

The developments come at a time when several international media outlets are reporting that the United States is considering the possibility of cooperating with Kurdish groups to increase pressure on the Iranian regime. According to CNN, the US intelligence agency CIA is exploring scenarios to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of fomenting an uprising within Iran.

At the same time, Axios reported that US President Donald Trump has held phone conversations with Kurdish leaders in Iraq to discuss developments in the war between Israel and Iran and possible next steps.

The Wall Street Journal has also reported that the US administration is open to supporting armed groups inside Iran that are willing to challenge the government in Tehran.

According to Kurdish sources, several political and armed organizations are willing to cooperate with the United States and Israel. Among them are the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), factions of the Komala organization, and the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK).

However, analysts warn that such a scenario could increase tensions within Iran and lead to a wider regional conflict. Neil Quilliam of the British think tank Chatham House assessed that such a strategy could escalate internal clashes and further complicate the situation in the region.

At the same time, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) has intensified strikes against Kurdish positions in western Iran and northern Iraq, considering these groups a threat to the country's security.

Developments suggest that the Kurdish front could become a new element in the broader clash between Iran and its adversaries in the region.
