The UK is planning to recognize a Palestinian state, which Donald Trump opposes. The German CSU party is also not in favor of unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.
US President Donald Trump has strongly rejected the British government's idea of recognising a Palestinian state. "I disagree with the prime minister on this point," Trump said at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. At the same time, Trump stressed that this was "one of the few disagreements we have".
According to media reports, Great Britain is on the verge of recognizing a Palestinian state. In early September, the British government promised to recognize a Palestinian state if Israel did not take "substantial steps" to improve the situation in the Gaza Strip.
CSU party will not accept sanctions against Israel
According to the chairman of the Christian Social Party in Germany, Markus Söder, the CSU party will not support possible sanctions against the state of Israel for its actions in the Gaza Strip. "I also reject the proposals of the EU Commission to impose sanctions on Israel," Söder told the newspaper "Münchner Merkur."
"The CSU party will not agree to sanctions or unilateral recognition of the Palestinian state, not even at the federal level," he added. He supports honesty in relations with Israel and also criticism of the actions of the Israeli government. "But honesty should not overshadow friendship," Söder said. /DW
