Bad weather has hit several areas of Crete, causing material damage and hardship for residents, while the extreme phenomena have also been accompanied by the presence of African dust.
In the Ierapetra area, rough seas, storms and waves were recorded that reached close to homes in the old town. In Pachia Ammos, a tornado overturned a truck that was in the process of loading agricultural products for export. The same phenomenon toppled two pine trees and damaged greenhouses, while a wall of a ceramics factory also collapsed.
This is the fourth serious case reported this year in the area, linked to strong southerly winds.
Fishermen warn of insecurity in the port, while citizens are asked to avoid movements near the coast until weather conditions improve. The coastal road and areas near greenhouses and factories remain at high risk.
Meanwhile, in Heraklion, the presence of African dust has significantly changed the appearance of the city. The sky has taken on yellow hues and the port has become difficult to distinguish due to the high density of particles in the air.
The phenomenon is expected to gradually fade over the next few hours.
