Asim Munir's visit comes at a time when Iran-US talks have stalled. Some media outlets are also linking it to Pakistan's obligations towards Saudi Arabia...
Pakistan's Army Chief of Staff, Asim Munir, is visiting Tehran today, as efforts for peaceful mediation remain blocked, according to Iranian media.
Israeli media reports that the visit is not only related to the talks between Iran and the US, but also to Pakistan's strategic relationship with Saudi Arabia. According to the defense pact between Riyadh and Islamabad, an attack on one side is treated as an attack on both.

In this context, any new Iranian escalation towards Saudi Arabia could put Pakistan in a difficult position. Pakistan has important economic and strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, so Munir's visit to Tehran can be read not only as a diplomatic initiative, but also as a warning message.
