In the tense climate following Israel's surprise attacks on Iran's nuclear and military facilities, the Tehran regime is entering a state of deepening paranoia, seeing "Israeli unrest" and Mossad agents everywhere. A vast propaganda campaign has been launched to mobilize the population against any suspicious behavior.
A poster published by Nour News, a media outlet affiliated with the Iranian security apparatus, urges citizens to report individuals wearing “masks, hats and sunglasses, even at night,” as well as those who frequently receive packages by courier. Among the suspicious signals people are asked to report are “unusual sounds from inside the house, such as screaming, metallic noises or continuous banging” and “apartments with curtains drawn even during the day.”
Another police poster, distributed on state media, advises landlords who have just rented out their homes to immediately notify authorities. Journalists inside Iran have told CNN that they are currently prohibited from taking photographs on the streets.
This fear campaign comes at a precarious moment for the Iranian regime, which finds itself isolated and shaken by the mass protests that have erupted in recent years, particularly after the murder of Mahsa Amini by the "morality police."
Units of the Basij militia, the paramilitary wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, have been activated on night patrols to increase surveillance in the capital and other cities in response to the reported Israeli infiltration. Iranian police chief Ahmad-Reza Radan called on “traitors” in a video statement to surrender, suggesting they could be treated with mercy if they cooperated, otherwise they would be “punished severely, just as the Zionist enemy is being punished now.”
The head of the Iranian judiciary, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, has called for immediate punishment for anyone accused of collaborating with Israel, stressing that in "these war conditions, everything must be processed quickly."
This internal alarm comes at the same time as new reports from Israeli officials say that Mossad has introduced precision weapons into Iranian territory, set up bases for launching suicide drones, and struck strategic targets, including missile launchers near Tehran and air defense systems, paving the way for over 100 coordinated air strikes with more than 200 aircraft.
According to Iranian media, authorities have seized equipment used in the operation, including about 200 kilograms of explosives, several suicide drones, launchers and components for their construction in the city of Rey, in Tehran province. The state-run Fars news agency published a video showing a building with drone parts and other equipment.
While entire security structures are on alert, one thing is clear: the Mossad operation has not only shaken Iran's physical defenses, but has also triggered a deep psychological crisis within the regime's own system. / CNN
