A serious accident occurred today in the city of Düsseldorf in Germany, where two trams collided head-on at one of the busiest intersections in the urban area, causing dozens of injuries and panic among passengers.
According to German authorities, at least 27 people were rushed to hospitals in the city, five of whom are in serious condition. In addition to the injured taken to hospital, 28 other people received medical treatment at the scene for minor injuries and shock.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Berliner Allee and Graf-Adolf-Straße, under circumstances that have not yet been clarified by the authorities. Images from the scene show extensive damage to the front of both trams, while emergency teams, firefighters and police arrived immediately to evacuate passengers and provide first aid to the injured.
A fire department spokesman said the rescue operation was difficult due to the large number of passengers and the condition of some of the injured. However, all passengers managed to get out of the trams without being trapped.
German police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, but no cause has been ruled out, including human error or a technical problem with the traffic signal system. Traffic in the area was blocked for several hours, and authorities urged citizens to avoid the center of Düsseldorf.
