A serious accident has occurred in India where at least 50 people have lost their lives and 300 others have been injured after a passenger train derailed and collided with a freight train in Odisha's Balasore district.
Rescue operations are underway and "all possible assistance" is being provided to those affected, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, Reuters reports.
The Coromandel Express train, which travels from Kolkata to Chennai, derailed after the collision and fell onto the opposite tracks, reports said. Many people are still trapped.
"Almost 50 ambulances are working, but it seems that there are many injured people. A large number of buses are being mobilized to take the injured to the hospital,” Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena tweeted.
