American national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, has stated that the United States is ready for dialogue on nuclear weapons control with Russia and China without preconditions.
" We have stated our willingness to engage in bilateral arms control discussions with Russia and China without preconditions ," he told an annual meeting of the Arms Control Association.
But stressing that the term "without preconditions" does not mean without accountability, he added that the US will still hold nuclear powers accountable for reckless behavior.
" We will still hold our adversaries and competitors accountable for maintaining the nuclear deal ," Sullivan concluded.
We recall that a few months ago, Russia withdrew from the agreement on the control of nuclear weapons, in which the great powers reported to each other about the number of active nuclear warheads, how many they had dismantled.
The fear that China and Russia will continue to expand their nuclear arsenal after leaving the agreement seems to have forced the US to extend the hand of cooperation without conditions.
