US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns made a secret visit to China in May, during which he met with representatives of the Chinese intelligence community.
In a report published by the Financial Times on Friday, Director Burns visited Beijing last month, where he met with his Chinese counterparts and stressed the importance of keeping the lines of communication open through intelligence channels, the publication said.
On the other hand, the White House and the CIA refused to comment on the information. According to the newspaper, Burns' visit to Beijing shows the level of concern of US President Joe Biden's administration about deteriorating relations with China.
The Financial Times noted that the CIA director became the most senior member of the current Washington administration to visit China.
