Polish authorities on Tuesday filed charges against an individual who allegedly planned to help Russian foreign services assassinate Volodymyr Zelensky.
This is Pavel K., who was arrested in April 2024 and faces a sentence of up to eight years in prison.
According to the prosecution authorities, the arrested person had declared his willingness to assist the military intelligence services of the Russian Federation and had contacted Russians who participated in the war in Ukraine.
"His actions were intended to assist, among other things, in the planning by Russian special services of a possible assassination attempt on the life of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The role he was allegedly assigned to included collecting and providing information regarding security at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport in southeastern Poland, prosecutors said, Reuters reports.
Poland, a hub for Western military supplies to Ukraine, says it has become a prime target of Russian spies, accusing Moscow and its ally Belarus of trying to destabilize it - charges the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.
