A security forces headquarters belonging to the armed Kurdish group Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) was hit by a drone attack on Friday afternoon, according to Iranian state media and confirmed by a spokesman for the group.
The base, located in northern Iraq near the city of Erbil, was targeted by two drones and two missiles and resulted in four injuries among the PKK security forces, the spokesman said.
Footage of the attack showed thick clouds of smoke rising from the struck base.
The spokesman could not confirm where the attacks came from, stating that missile attacks usually come from inside Iran, while drone attacks are sometimes carried out by pro-Iranian factions inside Iraq.
Since CNN reported that the CIA was working to arm Iranian Kurdish groups to foment an uprising within Iran, Tehran has targeted these fighters more frequently and intensively, even using some of its own missiles.
