Trump is right to warn against mass immigration and the Islamization of Europe
Last week, the Trump administration expressed its fear that Europe faces “civilizational collapse.” Its concern was articulated in a 33-page National Security Strategy that outlined Donald Trump’s view of the world and how America will respond economically and militarily.
The sentence that caused the biggest reaction on the other side of the pond was the assertion that, if current trends continue, Europe will be “unrecognizable within 20 years or less.”
These trends are mass immigration and what conservative French commentators call the “Islamization” of Europe.
If Europe does not address these trends, the Trump administration predicts the "erasure of civilization" of the continent.
Germany's Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, issued a scathing response to the Security Strategy report, claiming that his country does not need "advice from outside." Is he sure about that?
Last year, Berlin’s police chief, Barbara Slowik, warned Jews and homosexuals to hide their identities in the city’s “Arab neighborhoods.” In France, Jews have left the country in large numbers: 60,000 between 2000 and 2020, more than ten percent of the French Jewish community. Since 2023, acts of anti-Semitism have increased by 300 percent, including the burning of synagogues and the beating of rabbis.
The “erasure of civilization” is also largely self-inflicted and is especially evident at this time of year. One of the most famous Christmas markets in Paris is in La Défense, which this year offers halal meat in its festive dishes.
For the left, this is a celebration of diversity. However, they have a different view of those right-wing cities that have the audacity to display a nativity scene in their city hall.
In these cases, such overt signs of Christianity are a violation of France's laïcité or secularism.
Similarly, the left in France supports the wearing of Islamic clothing, such as the hijab or long abaya, as liberating. Those who object on grounds of secularism are labeled “Islamophobes.”
It could be said that nothing symbolizes the “Islamization” of Europe more than the hijab. In Iran, young women risk their lives for the right not to wear it. In Western Europe it is almost mandatory. The hijab is becoming increasingly popular among young French Muslims: in 2003, only 16 percent of young people under 25 wore the Islamic headscarf, a figure that is now 45 percent. Last week, a police force in England proudly displayed its new “quick-release” hijab for female officers.
For now, the British people may still question the wisdom of allowing police officers to wear the hijab, but the Labour government is expected to soon introduce new “Islamophobia” laws that would criminalize criticism of Islam.
In Brussels, a Muslim city councilor recently declared that Belgians who oppose women wearing the hijab should go live somewhere else.
The same city last week unveiled its traditional nativity scene in its historic market square. There is one change this year: the holy family has no faces, and it has been suggested that this is not done to offend followers of Islam, where the faces of prophets are not allowed to be shown. Fifty-two percent of schoolchildren in Brussels are Muslim, 15 percent more than in London.
The two main drivers of the Islamization of Europe are mass immigration and the Muslim Brotherhood, the shadowy Islamist organization that President Trump aims to ban.
One of Europe's leading experts on the Muslim Brotherhood is French academic Florence Bergeaud-Blackler, who is seeking police protection as a result of her research.
She explained in a 2023 book that "their goal is not to adapt Islam to Europe, but to adapt Europe to Islam."
