Colombian and Italian authorities arrested two major cocaine traffickers linked to the Camorra, one of Italy's most powerful mafia organizations.
The first wanted man was arrested in Medellín, Colombia on October 8. He had been wanted for years as Italy sought him for his role in running international drug-trafficking operations spanning South America and Europe.
The second wanted man, Luigi Belvedere, was arrested on October 24, also in Medellín. On the run since December 2020, he was on the Italian Ministry of the Interior's list of dangerous fugitives. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison for drug trafficking. Luigi Belvedere, one of Italy's most wanted men, was tracked down in the city of Medellín, where the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar's cartel was based.
Italian police released an image of Belvedere posing next to Escobar's grave when they announced his arrest.
The suspects were involved in an extensive drug trafficking organization from South America to Europe.
The criminal network specialized in smuggling large quantities of cocaine by hiding the drug in sea cargo, often with the help of front companies, especially in the fruit sector.
