A member of the Iranian negotiating team, Mahmoud Nabavian, revealed that during the talks held in Islamabad, the United States put forward two main demands: the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the withdrawal of all 60 percent enriched material from Iran. According to Nabavian's statements to the ISNA agency, the Americans linked these demands to Iran's nuclear program and security in the region.
To secure cooperation, the US promised to release $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets. The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, reacted sharply to the US pressure. He said that while the US has the ability to strike Iranian infrastructure, Iran is capable of destroying all infrastructure in the region in less than half a day, thus underscoring the strength of the potential Iranian response.
Nabavian added that after a direct contact with Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance proposed that the negotiations continue on the basis of the American plan. Ghalibaf accepted this suggestion, but suddenly Vance announced that President Trump would not accept the agreement reached. This unexpected turn of events increased tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The talks are taking place in a highly tense climate, with Iran's nuclear program, the security of the Strait of Hormuz, and economic sanctions remaining its main issues. While the US side has yet to provide official confirmation, Iranian statements highlight strong US pressure and Tehran's readiness for resistance.
