The administration of President Joe Biden, despite opposing the idea of a wall separating them from Mexico several years ago, has recently declared that it will continue the construction of the wall in the south of Texas, in an effort to stop the high flow of immigration.
About 20 miles (32 kilometers) of wall will be erected in Starr County, along the border with Mexico, where officials report a significant increase in illegal crossings. Building a border wall was a policy of Donald Trump when he was president and was strongly opposed by Democrats.
In 2020, Biden promised not to build more parts of the wall if elected president. But the growing number of illegal border crossings has turned the issue into a sticking point for the president.
According to government data, more than 245,000 crossings have been recorded this year, with September expected to be the record month. Residents of various cities declare that they are feeling the impact of the influx.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams predicted that the cost of housing more than 100,000 immigrants since last year will rise to $12 billion over the next three years.
Mr Adams is making trips to Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador this week to try to discourage migrants. "We have exceeded all capacities", he declared on Tuesday.
While President Biden's secretary of homeland security spoke of an "immediate and acute need" to build the wall and prevent illegal entry into the territory of the United States.
