At least 50 people were killed Thursday in a Russian attack on a village in northeastern Ukraine's Kharkiv region, Ukrainian officials said. Among them was a 6-year-old boy.
The governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synehubov, said that a cafe and a shop were attacked in the village of Hroza, at a time when there were many civilians there. It was not immediately clear whether Russian forces had launched a missile attack or bombed.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who is attending a high-level meeting of European leaders in Granada, Spain, said "Russian terror must stop".
He told more than 40 leaders at the meeting that he was confident of America's continued support and asked for their continued help and additional weapons to defend against Russian aggression.
Mr. Zelenskiy said President Vladimir Putin must not be allowed to build up his military, or else in the coming years Russia could attack beyond Ukraine.
"Let Putin's ambitions turn into ruins, not our countries, not our cities. Children of every country deserve to be safe. All over the country, not just in the subways, not just in underground shelters, but everywhere. We must we will succeed. We must guarantee the victory of Ukraine."
