There is still much mystery as to why the leader of the Wagner group suddenly withdrew from the march to Moscow. Prigozhin says that he did not want bloodshed, but his statement did not convince much because he knew from the start that entering Moscow would bring casualties.
But foreign services have raised suspicions that Putin worked behind the scenes and forced them to withdraw.
According to the British, Russian intelligence services threatened to "exterminate" the families of the Wagner bosses before Yevgeny Prigozhin called off his advance on Moscow.
It has also been revealed that the mercenary force had only 8,000 fighters, instead of the 25,000 force claimed by Prigozhin.
Vladimir Putin will now try to assimilate Wagner Group soldiers into the Russian military and remove its former leaders, according to The Telegraph.
It remains a mystery what formal agreement was reached. The Kremlin said on Saturday that Prigozhin would go to Belarus in exchange for a pardon on treason charges.
