Putin's 'attack dog' is creating his own army to overthrow the

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov is said to be creating his own private army following the death of Wagner group head Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Kadyrov - who has often been called the "attack dog" of Russian President Vladimir Putin - is believed to be strengthening his private army at Russia's expense.

Thousands of recruits were expected to be deployed to Ukraine to boost troop numbers, however there are now suspicions of an ulterior motive.

An October talks about Kadyrov's men being kept on high alert to crush any rebellion against Putin, after protests erupted in the republic of Bashkortostan earlier this month.

Meanwhile, another theory is that in the event of the death of the Russian president, Kadyrov can break away from Russia and create an independent state.

By raising new military formations, the Chechen leader is "strengthening his private army at the expense of the (Russian) federal budget," according to the report of the independent media "Kavkaz Realii", part of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The regiments named "Akhmat-Russia" and "Akhmat-Chechnya" - under the Ministry of Defense of Russia - were created to mobilize in the war against Ukraine, but the date of deployment of these regiments to the front is not yet known.

As of late May 2023, 2,400 recruits had been 'selected', but the current size of his current private army is unclear.

In the past, Kadyrov has said he has tens of thousands of soldiers under his command. Among his fighters are Wagner's former mercenaries, once loyal to Yevgeny Prigozhin.

According to the political analyst, Mikhail Savva, there is a clear surplus of these military units in Chechnya.

"It is absolutely clear that this was done in the interests of Kadyrov personally and his regime, and against the interests of the federal government of Russia," he said. / Metro
