US President Joe Biden has reacted after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
In a briefing from the White House, after the rebels took control of the Syrian capital, Damascus, Biden says that this is a historic opportunity for Syria.
"Finally, the Assad regime has fallen. This is a historic opportunity for the Syrian people," said Joe Biden, specifying that despite reports that the dictator is in Moscow, the US is not safe.
"This regime brutalized and tortured and killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians ," Biden said while adding that the fall of Assad is a fundamental act of justice.
"The fall of the regime is a fundamental act of justice. Historic moment for the long-suffering people of Syria to build a better future for their country," the US president also said.
Biden has emphasized that Assad must be brought to justice and punished.
After many hours of hints about the whereabouts of the president of Syria, Assad and his family have arrived and have taken refuge in Moscow. According to what the Russian media reports, Assad and his family have been granted asylum by the Russian authorities.
