Many in the capital were finding it unbelievable how quickly Assad lost his grip on the country after nearly 14 years of civil war that left hundreds of thousands dead and displaced half of the country's population of 23 million.
After the news spread that the government of Bashar Al Assad had fallen, thousands of citizens flocked to the streets of the city celebrating the liberation of the country from the dictatorship.
