Over 850 people evacuated, the community on its knees, as summer camps and centuries-old traditions disappear underwater...
Devastating flooding in Texas has killed at least 27 people, according to an update from Kerr County Sheriff Larry L. Leitha. Nine of the victims are children, a shocking indication of the scale of the tragedy that has engulfed the small community in the heart of the state.
The sheriff also confirmed that over 850 people have been rescued or evacuated, including eight injured, while search and rescue operations are continuing at high intensity. Leitha stressed that the situation is still dynamic and the numbers could change.
The girls' camp and the pain of a destroyed community
One of the most sensitive points of the tragedy remains Camp Mystic, the girls' camp in the town of Hunt, where about 20 children are still missing. It is a popular Christian-oriented summer camp that has been part of the community's identity for decades.

"We will not stop until we find every missing person," Sheriff Leitha said emotionally at a press conference, urging residents to report any information about missing relatives to a dedicated call center.
Traditions that drown with the river
In the town of Hunt, the floods have wiped out everything that represented the heart of the community: summer camps and Crider's Rodeo, a local institution that was expected to celebrate its 100th anniversary this July 4. Jerry Adams, a local resident, said with tears in his eyes: "Crider's was everyone's bread and butter... Now there's nothing left. It'll never be the same again."

Jeff Harris, a member of the Kerrville City Council, told CNN that this is a deep wound for a city where “everyone knows each other.” He called on all Americans to pray for his city: “What we need most right now is prayer.”

As hopes of finding survivors dwindle, authorities are urging residents to stay informed and cooperate with rescue teams. The state of Texas is in a state of emergency, while the risk of new flooding remains active due to further rainfall forecasts. /Pamphlet
