War in the Middle East/ Hezbollah and Israel escalate attacks

War clouds are gathering over the Middle East, where an Iranian attack on Israel is seen as revenge for last week's deadly attack on its consulate in Damascus. This scenario is intensified by the statement of US President Joe Biden, who said that he expects the attack to happen soon, while sending the message "Don't do it!".

The start of a conflict between Iran and Israel would mean a serious escalation in the region – a scenario the US had hoped to avoid since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October.

As of late Friday, the U.S. believed the Iranians could also be involved in the imminent attacks, according to a senior administration official and an intelligence source familiar with the matter, and that the targets would likely be inside Israel and around the region. The US willingness to intercept weapons fired at Israel signaled a clear indication of the level of ongoing cooperation between the two countries' militaries.

The United States has observed Iran moving internal military assets, including drones and cruise missiles, signaling it is preparing to attack Israeli targets from inside its territory, according to two people familiar with US intelligence. One of the sources said the US observed Iran preparing up to 100 cruise missiles.

At the White House, US President Joe Biden, responding to a related question, said yesterday, Friday, that he expects Iran to take action soon.

"I don't want to give out confidential information, but I expect it will be soon," said President Biden, who also answered a question about the message he would like to send to Tehran: "Don't do it." .

Speaking to reporters, Biden also said: “We are committed to the defense of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed."

Meanwhile, the first withdrawals of diplomatic troops in Iran have also begun. The Netherlands will close its embassy in Tehran on Sunday

The Dutch Foreign Ministry says it will close its embassy in Tehran on Sunday as a precaution due to rising tensions between Iran and Israel. The ministry added that it will decide on Sunday whether the embassy will reopen the following day.
