Fears of an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East between Iran and Israel have alarmed Western countries, which have begun to notify their citizens to leave the region.
Germany warned its citizens to leave Iran, saying there was a risk of a sudden escalation of Tehran's existing tensions with Israel and that Germans could be put at risk.
" In the current tensions, especially between Israel and Iran, there is a risk of a sudden escalation. It cannot be ruled out that air, land and sea transport routes may be affected. German citizens are at risk of being arbitrarily arrested and interrogated and given long prison sentences. Dual citizens of Iranian and German nationality are particularly at risk ," the German Foreign Ministry wrote in a new travel warning issued Friday.
