The preliminary results reveal the winner over Erdogan, the mayor of Istanbul: The trust in us was rewarded

Istanbul's current mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who is running for re-election as a Republican People's Party (CHP) candidate, spoke to the media as he thanked his supporters.

After the partial results show that his opposition has moved forward in the polls in Turkey, he says that he is happy about this positive result as he adds that "the citizens' trust in us has been rewarded".

"Now we have data that goes towards 40 percent. Based on the data we have received, I can say that the citizens' trust in us has been rewarded. Our data is good and what we have seen so far is very satisfying, but no election is finalized before it ends. Counting continues ," said Istanbul's mayor.
