-Shocking confession/ King Charles: A "terrible" battle and "dark

In a rare and deeply personal account, King Charles spoke about his "terrible experience" with cancer, which he was diagnosed with about 15 months ago.

King Charles, in a written message to cancer sufferers on the occasion of a special event he will host for cancer charities at Buckingham Palace, expressed his appreciation for the "profound impact of human connection", noting how "the darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion".

Charles is still undergoing regular treatments as someone "living with cancer", although his aides say his recovery is continuing in a "very positive direction, as reflected in the very full national and international engagement schedule" he is undertaking.

In his message, Charles, 76, made sure to personally thank those who work so "selflessly" providing care, comfort and reassurance to the 390,000 people who receive a new diagnosis of cancer across the UK each year - more than 1,000 a day - as well as those working to treat the disease, research it and raise money for it.

"Every diagnosis, every new case, will be a frightening and sometimes painful experience for these individuals and their loved ones," he writes.

Revealing his feelings about becoming "among these statistics", he added: "I can vouch for the fact that it can also be an experience that brings out the best in humanity".
