Britain, France, Italy and Spain are moving aircraft and warships to protect interests in the Middle East and support the US.
Several European countries have increased their military presence in the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean. The movements include fighter jets, ships and logistical support for allied operations in the region.
The United Kingdom has decided to send four additional Typhoon jets to Qatar. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that these aircraft will join an existing squadron in the Gulf country to strengthen defensive operations. Qatar is considered an important energy partner for London.
France has made its bases in the Middle East available to the US air force. The French General Staff stated that US aircraft will not use these bases for attacks against Iran.
Paris also deployed the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the eastern Mediterranean. The ship carries about 20 Rafale jets and two E-2C Hawkeye early warning systems, which monitor airspace and signal potential threats.
The aircraft carrier weighs about 42,500 tons, is 261 meters long and uses two K15 nuclear reactors.
Italy and Spain announced they will send naval assets to strengthen the defense of Cyprus after an Iranian drone struck the British base at Akrotiri. The defense ministries of the two countries confirmed the decision on Thursday.
Italy also plans to provide air defense support to Gulf countries that have faced retaliatory attacks from Iran.
Other security measures have also been recorded in the region. Lebanon has banned the activities of members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, while Azerbaijan has placed its armed forces on full alert after drone attacks.
