Iran's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, warned that the Iranian military will decisively confront any Kurdish separatist activity in the country.
In a message published on the social network X, Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for the Kurdish people, whom he described as "proud and honorable," noting that many Kurds have stood by Iran during the recent conflict.
The Iranian president also said he shares the pain with Kurdish families who have lost relatives during the war between the US, Israel and Iran.
However, he stressed that the Iranian security institutions and military, as "guarantors of the country's security," have the obligation to decisively confront any action aimed at territorial division.
Pezeshkian's statement comes at a time of renewed tensions, after US President Donald Trump stated in an interview with Reuters that he supports the possibility of Kurdish forces launching an offensive against Iran.
“I think it’s a very good thing that they want to do that. I would totally support it,” Trump said. Asked whether the United States would provide air support for such an operation, he did not give a clear answer, saying only: “I can’t tell you that.”
According to Reuters, Iranian Kurdish militias operating along the Iran-Iraq border, in the autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq, have held discussions with US officials regarding the possibility of operations against Iranian forces in western Iran.
Recent developments add to concerns about a further expansion of the conflict in the region, as tensions between Iran and its adversaries continue to rise.
