According to the US president, Noem will move into a new role as Special Envoy for "Shield of the Americas," a newly created position linked to what Trump described as a "new Western Hemisphere Security Initiative."
Kristi Noem has been one of the key figures in implementing the Trump administration's immigration policies.
The US president also praised Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin, saying he has done "an extraordinary job representing the people of Oklahoma."
Trump described Mullin as a "MAGA fighter" and noted that he was previously an undefeated professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.
"Markwayne gets along very well with people and has the wisdom and courage needed to advance our 'America First' agenda ," Trump wrote, adding that Mullin "will work tirelessly" to keep the United States' borders secure.
Who is Kristi Noem?
Kristi Noem, 54, is an American politician of the Republican Party who led the United States Department of Homeland Security from January 2025 to March 2026, during the second term of President Donald Trump.
In this role, she was responsible for federal homeland security policies, including border control, emergency response, and oversight of agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Secret Service.
During her time at the helm of the department, Noem was one of the key figures in implementing the Trump administration's immigration policies, including strengthening security at the US-Mexico border and operations against illegal immigration.
Before entering the presidential cabinet, Noem served as governor of South Dakota from 2019 to 2025, becoming the first woman to hold the post in that state.
