The meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska has caused numerous reactions, especially in the US, Ukraine and Russia.

The American press is critical, the Ukrainian press is disgusted, the Russian press is jubilant. That sums up the domestic media's reactions to the outcome of the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska. It's not hard to see who won and who lost the most.

United States

"Trump Backs Call for Ukraine Ceasefire, Supports Putin," is the New York Times' headline.

"No deal was reached, but there were no consequences for Putin," writes David Sanger, a columnist for the New York Times, "which makes the warm reception he received from the White House leader all the more impressive."

The same headline and analysis in the Washington Post, which also highlights how Trump's behavior at this meeting is producing "a rift with Washington's allies," from Europe to Australia, who were expecting another way to confront Putin at the meeting - to reach an agreement or at least a ceasefire.

On CNN, Fareed Zakaria, one of America's most authoritative experts on international affairs, described the meeting as simply "embarrassing."

Russia

The Moscow press reacted in the opposite tone. The Tass agency described the meeting as positive for relations between the two superpowers, while declaring that "it is now up to Kiev and Europe to choose between territorial concessions to Moscow and the continuation of the war."

National television Channel One entrusted the summit comments to Dmitry Trenin, a well-known analyst and member of the Council on Foreign Relations, according to whom the situation that has now developed is "unequivocally in favor of the Kremlin" and that the "enemy" is now Europe, determined to "impede peace between Russia and America."

The daily newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda is on the same page, according to which "the ball is in the court of Ukraine and the United Kingdom and the EU, who would like to continue hostilities": it is up to Washington to convince them, an editorial concludes, that such a stance will lead to nothing.

As for the Kiev media, the reaction is uniform: fury, anger, disgust. "A disgusting summit," reads the headline of the Kiev Independent newspaper. "This summit was a dress rehearsal for treason," writes the Kiev Post. Ukrainian TV networks and news sites are worried that America will force Zekensky to make unacceptable concessions and are eagerly awaiting the Ukrainian president's visit to the White House on Monday./ La Repubblica
