Information warfare is one of the most powerful weapons today, especially in a modern conflict. Like Russia with the war in Ukraine and Serbia with the tensions in the north, it constantly tries to spread fake news to then raise the rhetoric of the conflict.
One such case is that of yesterday's statements by the director of the Office for Kosovo of the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, who said that the Kurti police attempted several arrests in the neighborhood of "Bosniaks" in the north of Mitrovica, but that were refuted by the Serbs themselves.
Petkovic claimed that the police tried to arrest the two brothers, Goran and Vlada Vucetic, in the city center, and then also Miroslav Živkovic, but his claims were rejected by Živkovic's wife herself, who denied it with a video message this information.
In the video message, Jelena Živković asked where Petković got such information that someone was following her husband, she asked Petković to address her personally and tell her.
" I am Jelena Živković, the wife of today's appointee Miroslav Živković whom Mr. Petar Petkovic mentioned it in his statement that he gave at 10:00. I mean, I don't know where Mr. Petkovic the information that someone was following my husband. My husband was with his family last night, at home, no one came to our door or followed him. Where did Mr. Pekovic such information? I want him to turn to us and tell us this. Even for the sons Goran and Vladan Vucetić, whom he named, I spoke with them today, the boys were around the city, they were walking, no one followed them", said Jelena Živković.
We remember that Petkovic stated in a press conference yesterday that in the northern part of Mitrovica there was a real state of siege.
" Last night, Rosu special forces came from the southern part of Mitrovica with over 30 armored vehicles, wearing masks, with long pipes and mistreated the whole of North Mitrovica ", he said.
But given the disinformation campaign by Russia and Serbia's great desire to imitate Moscow, it is worth noting that this is not the first time that Petar Petkovic has spread misinformation about the situation in Kosovo.
