Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that the country will hold early parliamentary elections at the end of next year. The statement was made during an address to the nation, where he stressed that local elections will be held in several municipalities within five to six months, followed by parliamentary elections.
"Within five or six months we will have elections in a number of municipalities and then I expect early parliamentary elections at the end of next year ," Vučić declared.
Regarding his political future, Vučić has clarified that he will not run for president again, as the Serbian Constitution does not allow for a second presidential term. However, he has left open the possibility of running for prime minister in the future.
Serbia has been gripped by ongoing protests since November 2024, after a tent collapsed at the Novi Sad railway station, killing 16 people. Protesters blame the authorities for the tragedy and one of their main demands is early parliamentary elections.
