US and Iran successive threats...
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent a warning to US President Donald Trump, following the latter's statements that "Iran has not seen anything yet."
Araghchi stated that any attempt to escalate the conflict will be met with a response for which the Iranian armed forces have long been prepared.
"If Donald Trump seeks escalation, this is exactly what our powerful armed forces have long been preparing for," Araghchi said in a public statement.
He added that responsibility for any intensification of self-defense actions by Iran will fall exclusively on the US government.
According to BBC reporting, the Iranian minister's statement comes after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had previously stressed that Tehran does not intend to attack neighboring Gulf countries, except in cases where they are used as bases for operations against Iran.
Araghchi argued that Iran's willingness to de-escalate in the region has been misinterpreted by Trump. According to him, the US president's statements have distorted Iran's position and capabilities.
Trump, for his part, had interpreted the Iranian president's comments as a sign of weakness and warned that the United States would hit Iran "very hard" if the situation escalated.
In his statement, Araghchi also criticized the cost of the conflict for the US, claiming that in just one week, military operations have cost the US military around $100 billion, in addition to human losses.
He also warned of economic consequences for American citizens, citing the possibility of rising fuel prices if tensions continue.
The Iranian minister also referred to an assessment by the US National Intelligence Council, which he said concluded that a war against Iran would be doomed to failure.
The statement ends with a critique of American foreign policy in the region, arguing that involvement in a new conflict in the Middle East could go against the will of American voters, who have long sought to avoid long and costly wars in the region.
