Strong explosion in Dubai, Iran hits one of the tallest towers; residents

Black smoke was seen rising from the 23 Marina residential tower, one of the tallest buildings on Dubai's waterfront.

A powerful explosion was reported in the Dubai Marina area on Saturday after an Iranian drone hit or was intercepted near a high-rise residential tower, causing fire and thick clouds of smoke over one of the city's busiest areas.

According to initial reports and footage shared on social media, black smoke was seen rising from the 23 Marina residential tower, one of the tallest buildings on Dubai's waterfront. It was initially unclear whether the damage was caused by a direct drone strike or by debris from an interception by the UAE's air defenses.

In an official statement, the Dubai Media Office confirmed that the incident was caused by debris that fell after a successful interception, which damaged the facade of a tower in Dubai Marina.

" The situation is under control and no injuries have been reported, " the statement said, adding that residents were evacuated.

Initial reports suggest the Iranian drone may have targeted suspected Israeli security or command facilities, which some sources say were located inside the high-rise building. These claims have not been officially confirmed.

A few hours ago, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian publicly apologized to neighboring Gulf countries that have been affected by Iranian military operations.

In a televised speech, he declared that he regretted the attacks and that a temporary ruling council had ordered a halt to strikes on Gulf countries, except when their territories are used as bases for operations against Iran.

However, developments on the ground did not seem to reflect this statement. According to reports from international media outlets such as the Associated Press, NPR, and Euronews, Iranian missiles and drones continued to strike targets in the Gulf region even after the president's speech.

Another incident was reported near Concourse A at Dubai International Airport, where a drone exploded near the runway, forcing authorities to temporarily suspend flights at the world's busiest airport for international travel.

The events have also sparked criticism within Iran. According to the opposition media outlet Iran International, some political figures and commentators accused President Pezeshkian of showing weakness, while Iranian state television continued to praise the country's military operations.

According to an Associated Press analysis, the developments also indicate that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which controls the arsenal of ballistic missiles and drones, may have a greater influence on military operations than Iran's civilian government. /Pamphlet
