The head of NATO appeals to Kosovo and Serbia: Return immediately to the
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, in a joint conference with the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has again called on the political leaders in Kosovo and Serbia not to take any steps towards escalating the situation and to return to the mediated dialogue. from the European Union.

"We call on all parties to stop any further escalating steps and immediately return to the dialogue facilitated by the European Union", said Stoltenberg, while adding that the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo (KFOR) will act in accordance with Resolution 1244 of the United Nations.

Calming the situation in the northern part of Kosovo, holding new local elections there and returning to the dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations are the three common demands of the European Union and the United States of America for exiting the crisis.

The abduction of three Kosovar policemen on the border line in the north of Kosovo by the security structures of Serbia has added new layers to an already familiar atmosphere, but this time with the risk of sliding towards the edges of further escalation and climbing towards the extremes.

The United States, Germany and the United Kingdom have demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the three Kosovo policemen. The US State Department, moreover, has said that their arrest and detention on baseless charges has worsened the situation.
