An organized fuel smuggling network has been dismantled by Greek police, who have discovered that the criminal group had profited over 3 million euros from illegal activities.
According to the investigation, the network operated on three levels. At the head of the organization was a 38-year-old man who has the same last name as a member of the Greek mafia who was killed several years ago.
Then there were two subgroups, one dealing with the supply of gasoline for internal combustion engines and the other with the supply of chemical solvents.
The “foundations” of the organization
The organization had "bases" in the areas of Attica, Trikala and Thessaloniki and had connections with unknown individuals in Poland, Bulgaria and Albania.
They imported chemical solvents from Poland, mixed them with fuel, and sold diesel without invoices.
In a two-month period (April-June 2025), 7 shipments were carried out with a total of 212,213 liters of solvent from Poland.
The solvents were then temporarily stored in underground reservoirs located in the Mykani area of Trikala.
During 2025, the group purchased more than 1.3 million liters of gasoline from Romania and Bulgaria, falsifying customs documents.
They claimed that the products were exported to an Albanian company, but in reality the gasoline was retained and sold on the Greek market, avoiding customs duties.
Arrests and seizures
In the operation, 22 people were arrested, 8 gas stations were closed, and the following were seized: 789,076 euros in cash; 5 cars, 1 van, 15 trucks, 10 tankers; 154,037 liters of diesel, 88,760 liters of oil, 3,500 liters of diesel for cars; Computer programs for manipulation, a revolver and 46 cartridges.
