A powerful explosion has rocked the port of Odessa in Ukraine after a drone and missile attack, suspected to have been carried out by Russian forces.
The ship was located in the port of Chornomorsk, one of three major Black Sea ports in the Odessa region, Reuters writes.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the merchant ship was engulfed in flames after the bombing, while images of the fire and explosion went viral on social media.
So far, no casualties have been reported, but the material damage is considerable.
The Ukrainian Air Force has confirmed that coordinated air strikes were carried out overnight on Odessa's port infrastructure, a strategic point for the country's exports.
However, no details have yet been provided on the type of missiles or the number of drones used in the attack.
Rescue and firefighting operations continue, while local authorities have ordered a temporary closure of traffic in the port area for safety reasons.
