Several rockets have landed in various areas of central Israel, according to initial reports cited by Al Jazeera. Israeli authorities have not yet authorized the publication of full details of the incident due to military censorship restrictions.
However, eyewitnesses report plumes of smoke rising from several impact points in the region. There is no official information yet on possible damage or casualties.
The central Israeli area is considered one of the most strategic in the country. It is home to about 44 percent of Israel's population and is home to key institutions, including Ben Gurion International Airport, several military bases, the Ministry of Defense, and the headquarters of the Mossad intelligence service.
Meanwhile, in Haifa and northern communities, sirens have been sounding almost non-stop due to rocket attacks. According to international media reports, the rockets are suspected to have been launched by Iran or the Hezbollah group in Lebanon.
Israeli authorities have not yet provided a full assessment of the security situation.
