US President Donald Trump criticized Kiev for not yet signing a rare earths deal with the US, while claiming that work on a comprehensive Russia-Ukraine peace agreement is going well.
He accused Zelensky of being three weeks late in signing the minerals agreement and that he should sign it immediately.
"Ukraine, led by Volodymyr Zelensky, has not signed the final documents on the very important Rare Earths agreement with the United States. It is at least three weeks late. Hopefully it will be signed IMMEDIATELY ," Trump wrote today on Social Truth while traveling aboard Air Force One to Rome for the Pope's funeral.
The president's post comes as he approaches his 100th day in office and, as CNN has reported, he is frustrated that his efforts to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine have failed.
"Work on the comprehensive peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is progressing smoothly. Success looks set to be in the future ," Trump added.
Recall that Trump has proposed a deal that gives the US more access to Kiev's valuable rare earth minerals, as critical to ensuring Ukraine's security by further entrenching the country's economic interests. Ukraine has hoped that such a deal would strengthen Trump's support for the country and help it secure more concrete security guarantees.
