Greenland is the subject of discussions between President Donald Trump and the US National Security Council, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt revealed at a press conference.
"The first option always remains diplomacy, as was the case with Venezuela," Levitt stressed.
Asked about the possibility of military intervention in Greenland, the White House spokeswoman said that President Trump is keeping all options open, emphasizing, however, that "diplomacy is always the priority."
"The president has stated very clearly and frankly that he believes it is in the interest of the United States to deter Russian and Chinese aggression in the Arctic region, and that is why his team is currently discussing potential acquisition options (for Greenland)," Levitt said.
According to her, the President made it clear that the United States will always stand by NATO."
