Trump attacks NATO again: Without me, Russia would have occupied all of Ukraine
Donald Trump

In a lengthy statement tinged with personal pride, US President Donald Trump has attacked the transatlantic alliance NATO and reinforced his claims about the decisive role he played in strengthening it during his first term in the White House.

According to Trump, before his intervention, NATO member countries were defaulting on their financial obligations, leaving the US to cover most of the costs. “I got them to 5% of GDP, and now they pay right away,” Trump writes, claiming that this was impossible before him, but he managed it because “they are all my friends.”

He further claims that, without his intervention, “Russia would have all of Ukraine now,” crediting himself as the savior of millions of lives and as the man who “only” ended eight wars. Indignantly, he also mentions Norway, a NATO member, which “stupidly” did not award him the Nobel Peace Prize – but as Trump himself says, “that doesn’t matter.”

Continuing his critical tone towards NATO allies, he declares that Russia and China “have no fear of NATO without the US” and that he has serious doubts whether NATO would help America in case of need. Despite these criticisms, Trump assures that the US “will always be there for NATO”, even if the reverse does not happen.

He closes the statement with a message about American military strength: "I am proud to have rebuilt our military during my first term and continue to do so. The only power that Russia and China respect is the America that I rebuilt."
