Pope Francis will not attend the UN climate conference in Dubai after suffering from flu and pneumonia.
Francis was supposed to leave Rome on Friday to attend the COP28 meeting, which was to be held on Saturday morning.
The Vatican said on Sunday that the pope had pneumonia, but said at the time that he still planned to go to Dubai, where he would become the first pope to address a UN climate conference.
This is the second time the Pope has been forced to cancel a trip abroad. He previously had to postpone a planned trip to Congo and South Sudan in 2022 due to knee inflammation, although he was able to make the trip earlier this year.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said Francis was recovering from the flu and inflammation of his airways that had forced him to cancel activities on Saturday. But doctors have asked the Pope not to travel to Dubai in the coming days.
