Yesterday's attack proved once again that Israel's air defense is not 100 percent infallible...
A Hzbollah drone struck an Israeli army base in the Haifa district on Sunday 13 October. The attack left several dead and dozens injured.
Why did Hezbollah choose this target?
The Binyamina base is in the Haifa district, an area that the Lebanese movement has repeatedly indicated as a prime target. It is an area that hosts the infrastructure, the barracks and the port (civil, military). And it is no coincidence that other Shia factions have also included him in their "list". Moreover, we are talking about a region close to Lebanese territory - this shortens the distance for those who attack - and important for the Jewish state. In this way, Hezbollah maintains the pressure on the opponent, reacts in the difficult phase and avoids "wasting" the missile reserves.
Rumors in the media claim that Hezbollah has a third of its short- and medium-range bombs left. Rating is attributed to security sources. Data that should always be taken with extreme caution.
What tactics did he use to strike?
The guerrillas have repeatedly sent drones into this sector. Through them they filmed the targets and then distributed the images for propaganda purposes. But some of these flights certainly served to observe the weak points of the defense. And in yesterday's raid they used a drone that arrived from the sea. At the same time there were dense launches of rockets - about 180 - to disorient the shield as much as possible. According to the IDF, "anti-aircraft" destroyed one of the drones, while the other, advancing at low altitude, was saved. The episode confirms that there is no blanket coverage against these threats.
How big is Hezbollah's arsenal?
A variant of the Mirsad 1, of Iranian design, was used in the attack. It has a range of 120 kilometers, a combat load of 40 kilograms, a speed of 370 km/h. Relatively simple weapon, not very fast, but can deal a lot of damage. Israeli sources claim that the Shiite militia has over 2,000 reconnaissance and attack drones from Iran. / Adapted "Pamphlet" from "Corriere Della Sera"
