How did the "hatred" of immigrants unite Sunak and Meloni?!

Sunak and Meloni have shared a hard-line approach to immigration through policies that have at times pushed the boundaries of what is legal.

She sharpened her political teeth on the streets of Rome as a teenage neo-fascist activist, becoming Italy's first female prime minister.

He is a former investment banker who became Britain's richest and first black prime minister.

However, despite their very different backgrounds, ties between Giorgia Meloni and Rishi Sunak are likely to grow even closer on Saturday as he is attending a right-wing political festival in Rome organized by her line of strictly the Party of the Brothers of Italy.

Sunak and Meloni have shared a hard-line approach to immigration through policies that have at times pushed the boundaries of what is legal.

The issue will be at the center of a bilateral meeting between the two before the festival and then a "trilateral" meeting where the Prime Minister of Albania will also be included. A controversial deal reached between the Italian and Albanian governments is believed to have been partly inspired by the UK government's long-running efforts to deport asylum seekers in Rwanda.

But the mutually beneficial relationship between Sunak and Meloni also reflects a growing blurring of the lines between politicians from Europe's far right and more traditional conservative backgrounds.

After Brexit, Sunak has found an ally within the EU with a shared interest in maintaining the increasingly tough stance on immigration demanded by his party's power base. For Mellon, an Anglophile who likes to quote British conservative philosopher Roger Scruton in speeches, the alliance helps make her extremist roots seem more distant.

Compared to Melon's other friends, such as Hungary's far-right nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, she has found a more "presentable" ally in Sunak.

How did the "hatred" of immigrants unite Sunak and Meloni?!

UK-Italy bilateral relations are on the best terms ever. Now there is a love triangle between Italy, Great Britain and Japan. While there is a personal chemistry, there is deep cooperation in areas such as defence, security and immigration.

But the fact that Sunak and Meloni are taking notes from each other regarding immigration policy is a clear indication of the direction Sunak's party is taking./Adapt "Pamphlet" from "The Guardian"
