Several private Chinese companies are providing Iran with intelligence that could be used to track and expose the movements of US forces, the Washington Post reported, raising concerns about indirect involvement in the conflict.
According to the report, these are private entities and not state structures, while the Chinese Communist Party appears to be trying to maintain an official distance from these activities.
Since the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war about five weeks ago, analysts and social media users have identified a surge in posts containing detailed data on the US military presence. This includes information on equipment at military bases, movements of US naval groups, and detailed operational analysis.
According to experts, some of this data, although collected from open sources (OSINT), has been processed and distributed in such a way that it could have direct military value for Iran.
The report highlights that these activities take place on both Western and Chinese platforms, creating an information network that can help identify potential targets.
However, there is no public evidence directly linking the Chinese government to these operations. According to the Washington Post, Beijing is taking a cautious approach, avoiding overt involvement in the conflict, while global tensions remain high.
The developments come at a time when the war in Iran and the conflict in Ukraine are increasing pressure on international balances, highlighting the new dimension of information warfare and the role of non-state actors in modern conflicts.
