Iranian and Russian authorities have stated that an attack was recorded the day before in an area near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, in the Persian Gulf, without causing the release of radioactive materials or injuries to personnel.
According to Alexey Likhachev, executive director of the Russian state nuclear energy company Rosatom, the attack hit an area adjacent to the plant's auxiliary infrastructure.
"An attack hit the area near the meteorological service building, located within the Bushehr nuclear power plant complex, near the operating unit. There were no casualties among Rosatom personnel and the radiation situation remains normal," Likhachev was quoted as saying by the Russian Tass agency.
The Iranian side has also confirmed that no nuclear consequences or damage to the operation of the plant have been recorded.
The event comes in a context of high tensions in the region, while experts warn that any attack near nuclear facilities poses a serious risk to regional and global security, due to the possibility of radiation spreading.
