Diplomatic contacts between Russia and Ukraine appear to be on the right track, as according to a source at the Russian TASS agency, there is a signal that a third round of direct talks will be held.
"There is such an understanding. The date will be determined," the same source said, without providing further details.
Earlier, the Kremlin had stated that it was waiting for an official signal from Kiev regarding its intention to participate or not in a new round of negotiations, as well as a corresponding proposal on when they could take place. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the Russian side continues to maintain a direct channel of communication through the adviser to the Russian president, Vladimir Medinsky.
Peskov confirmed that contacts continue.
"We maintain contact through Medinsky with our Ukrainian counterpart," he said.
What was agreed in the second round?
The second round of direct talks took place in early June, during which the two sides exchanged draft memoranda on a peaceful settlement. It was also agreed to exchange seriously wounded prisoners of war and the bodies of dead soldiers. The Russian side handed over several thousand bodies of Ukrainian soldiers to Kiev.
