For the first time, in North Macedonia, the government will be headed by an Albanian. Talat Xhaferi, the speaker of the Parliament until a few days ago, will assume the task of leading the technical government. Talat Xhaferi submitted to the Assembly the composition and program of the technical government, which will have the task of organizing the double elections, the parliamentary and presidential ones, which will be held on May 8.

Today's session, January 28, for the voting of the first Albanian prime minister and his government is expected to start around 11:00. The parliament will debate the program and the cabinet of Talat Xhaferi, while the technical government is expected to be voted on and approved by Sunday midnight.

Yesterday, January 26, President Stevo Pendarovski handed over the mandate to Talat Xhafer for the new composition of the technical Government. The Macedonian opposition will also be part of the technical Government, based on the Election Law, in order to organize and run the electoral process.

In a speech addressed to the nation, the chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti, called it a historic day for Albanians.

"This day is historic because we are becoming a state with an equal society. We will take the responsibility to tend them", said Ahmeti.

This will be the third technical government after the 2015 agreement aimed at preventing rigging of elections by appointing opposition representatives to the government cabinet.

The opposition does not vote for Talat Xhaferin

The Macedonian opposition, led by VMRO DPMNE, has said that it will not vote for the election of Talat Xhaferi, as it accuses him of "numerous legal violations" during his work as Speaker of the Assembly. The leader of this party, Hritijan Mickoski, reiterated the position that his party is firm on this decision.

However, the non-voting of the opposition deputies does not prevent the formation of the new government, since the parliamentary majority has the necessary number of 61 votes for the approval of the new government.
