A gunman, suspected of traveling from Indiana, was shot by US Secret Service agents after a gunfight near the White House in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to a statement from the Secret Service, the incident occurred around midnight, a block from the White House. Fortunately, there were no other injuries. President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time of the incident.
Local authorities had notified the Secret Service of a suspected suicidal individual traveling from Indiana. Agents located his car and a person matching the description. During the pursuit, the man pulled out a gun, leading to an armed confrontation, in which agents opened fire on him.
The injured man was taken to hospital and his condition remains unknown. The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident, which involved law enforcement.
